I had a hankering for bread, but I wanted something different. I had been dreaming about fresh cornbread, maybe cheddar jalapeño? Ooey gooey chocolate chip? Or one of my personal favorites, traditional cornbread topped with a little pad of butter and a drizzle of honey? But alas, I was out of cornmeal. Now what?

I searched the cabinets looking for bread inspiration. That’s when I came across a box of Cream Of Wheat. (Cream Of Wheat is an American brand of finely milled farina.) Perfect! I would make Cream Of Wheat bread instead!
Similar in texture to cornbread, but with a creamier and slightly sweeter flavor, it tastes like heaven when it is warmed and served with a pad of butter melted across the top and a drizzle of real maple syrup. I love to eat a slice of this bread for breakfast, but you can eat it anytime!
I decided to bake mine in a round springform cake pan and cut it into slices much like a cake, but this recipe would be equally fantastic as Cream Of Wheat muffins!
This recipe is pretty straight forward, so let’s dive right in!
The Most Outstanding Cream Of Wheat Bread
Equipment
- 9" cake pan (8" x 8" baking dish or skillet would also work, or standard 12 cup muffin pan)
- large bowl
- large measuring cup (for easy pouring)
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup Cream Of Wheat
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- 2½ tsp baking powder
- 1 egg
- ¾ cup milk or water (you can also substitute almond milk)
- ⅓ cup melted butter (you can also use vegetable oil)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Lightly grease your cake pan, baking dish, or muffin pan. (You can also use parchment paper if you'd like.)
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, Cream Of Wheat, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large measuring cup, whisk together the eggs, milk, and melted butter or oil.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry. Mix until just combined; do not over mix. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake for about 15-20 minutes. Insert a toothpick or cake tester into the center of the bread. If it comes out clean, remove from the heat and let it cool a bit. When ready to eat, serve with a small pad of butter and a drizzle of real maple syrup.
